The Brighton radio from Steepletone is a traditional analogue FM/MW/LW radio. Styled on early transister radios from the late 1950s/ early 1960s, this radio successfully recreates an authentic look and feel. In keeping with the originals, the radio is not small. With a width of just over 30cm, the cabinet is large enough to create a rich and clear sound. Also available in black.

It may be argued that the 'true story of radio' began with the creation of the British Broadcasting Company on 18th October 1922. With their transmitter, the famous '2LO', broadcasting from studios by the Aldwych in London, they began the entertainment revolution made possible some 26 years earlier by Guglielmo Marconi. With the advent of the transistor Britsh radio manufacturer's were able to bring out lighter portable radios, such as the Bush TR82 portable transistor receivers introduced in 1959.

Transistors were invented by Walter Brattain, John Bardeen and William Shockley (who shared the Nobel prize for physics for their invention in 1956), and were first produced commercially by the American company Raytheon, in 1952. The first transistor radio, the Regency TR-1, went on sale in the US in November 1954.
